The forces of the National Democratic Movement strongly condemn the recent irresponsible calls for further escalation of violence in the country, and the encouragement to take up armed struggle in Bahrain. We stress the need to reject these calls, wherever they may come from, paying close attention to their motivations and objectives. It is imperative for our nation that we learn from the lessons and experiences of our neighbours. We ask our people not to be dragged into these brash calls so as to ensure the security of Bahrain, its civil peace and unity. These calls constitute a grave insult against the struggle and sacrifice of our people. They distort our peaceful and just demands, and they stand against the national, political and cultural values that have long guided our thinking and political work at all times and in all circumstances.
We, along with a wide range of other movements and national political figures, have long warned against pushing this country into the squalor of violence and counter-violence. We have long emphasized the need to spare innocent lives and maintain the unity of our people against all that can divide and fragment, which often manifests in the obtrusion of a singular will against all, ignoring national interest, unity, security and peace.
We call upon all forces of good in the country, from political organizations to renowned figures to civil society and government bodies to pay close attention to what arises in this critical period. We emphasize the importance of being cautious and well-prepared for the consequences. We also ask the people to use reason and resort to wisdom. We call for a national and unifying dialogue that responds to the people’s just aspirations for freedom, tolerance, unity and democracy, away from the security grip that is suffocating these legitimate demands. We call for the country to move forward towards the establishment of a civil democratic state that respects human rights, that abolishes all forms of discrimination, and that heals the wounds of our people. We call for a national reconciliation with a strong sovereignty that ceases all foreign interference in national decisions.
